Nestled in the heart of the Dealu Mare countryside, our cottages are perfectly located for an ideal weekend break or a leisurely mid-week holiday.
Dealu Mare (the “Big Hills”), is located in the Muntenia area of Romania and has been a renowned wine region for centuries. Indeed, documents referencing the nearby Tohani vineyard date back to 1773.
In 1948, all of the private vineyards and wineries in Romania became the property of the state and their production focus over the next forty years turned to quantity as opposed to quality. Evidence from this period can still be seen in the many terraced hills that surround us, which are now fallow and no longer produce grapes.
After 1990, private investors and vinophiles began to rediscover and explore the potential of this fertile and verdant region, only 100 kilometers northeast of Bucharest and easily accessible by car and train.. Since the mid-2000s, many vineyards in the region have been replanted with EU-standard grape vines and this has translated into a wonderful variety of high quality wines once again being produced from our region.
We are located near the 45° parallel (like the famous Bordeaux vineyards). So, whether you prefer hiking the scenic terrain that surrounds us, an afternoon of wine tasting at one of the many nearby wineries or simply relaxing with a glass of locally produced Jardine Hills wine by the pool (or in the winter, curled up on the sofa in front of the wood burning stove), you are sure to experience a relaxing and memorable stay at Jardine Hills!
